Fall leaves with an orage butterfly

As the leaves change color and the air gets cooler, we find ourselves in a season of change. Fall reminds us that change is a natural part of life. If you’re a Cycle Breaker, someone who’s trying to change the story in their family, this season can be really important.

In this blog post, we want to walk alongside you through this season of change. We’ll talk about what it means to be a Cycle Breaker, the challenges you might face, and how you can handle them.

The Cycle Breaker’s Journey

Are you a Cycle Breaker?

Maybe you’re the first one in your family to go to college, working hard to create new opportunities. Maybe you’re the truth seeker in your family, the one who’s addressing intergenerational trauma head-on and refusing to brush it under the rug, like many generations before as you seek healing and understanding Or you might be starting a business, breaking the mold. Whatever your story, as a Cycle Breaker, you’re on a unique path of change.

Seasons of Change for a Cycle Breaker

We can draw inspiration and support from natural world to support us in understanding our own cycles.

  • Spring: This is where it all begins, like planting seeds. You start to see the potential for change.
  • Summer: Things are growing and thriving. You’re making progress and feeling hopeful.
  • Fall: Just like leaves falling, you might face challenges and self-doubt. Change isn’t always easy.
  • Winter: It can be tough, like a cold winter. You might wonder if change is worth it.
  • Spring Again: But just like the seasons, change keeps coming back. You can find hope and new beginnings
Challenges of Change

While embracing change is empowering, it’s not always easy. As a Cycle Breaker, you may face challenges such as self-doubt, imposter syndrome, or the pressure to go back to old patterns, even after they’ve outlived their usefulness. It’s also important to note that sometimes even pleasant changes such as the new beginnings of Spring or the progress and abundance of summer can also feel overwhelming. Change in general can make you feel uncertain and vulnerable, making it essential to have the right tools in place.

When do I need to seek outside help?

When these seasons of change last longer than expected or become more intense than expected, the transition may begin to develop into what is known as adjustment disorder. Your Guide to Navigating Change

At Healing Insight Therapy and Wellness Collective, we get that change can be tough, especially during transitions. Here are some actionable steps to help you navigate this season.

Self-Reflection

Whereas we sometimes fear looking too closely at what feels difficult might lead us to feel stuck, we often don’t realize that self awareness is useful because it allows us to get clarity on what we need for things to get better. It also allows use to get clear on what is going well or what we’ve overcome in the past.

For example, by reflecting memories of times where you were successful in navigating a difficult time, it gives us clues into the thoughts and behaviors that may help us navigate current challenges. It also increases confidence that if we’ve done it before, we can do it again. Take time to reflect on your journey so far. What cycles have you already broken? What new patterns are you creating? Self-awareness is the first step to transformation.

Self-Compassion

Self-compassion involves self-awareness paired with self kindness. Self-compassion also involves this concept of common humanity. Even when we are struggling with something deeply personal, it is likely that at this very moment there are several others that have or are currently going through something similar. This is not a signal to brush off what you’re going though. In fact, the opposite is true.

Self-compassion is an invitation lean into community and to treat yourself the way you might treat some one else going through something similar. Be gentle with yourself during times of self-doubt. Remember that growth involves setbacks for all of us and every step forward is a victory.

Holistic Wellness

Embrace holistic mental health practices that honor your mind, body, and soul. These practices can provide the support you need to stay grounded and resilient. Examples of Holistic Wellness practices include: Yoga, breathwork, sound healing, Reiki, EFT tapping and practices that can support you.

Holistic mental health also invites us to consider how physical movement, nutrition, and adequate sleep impact our mental health and vice versa. During periods of change especially, it is important to maintain stability in other areas, including our habits and routines.

Community Care

Self-compassion reminds us that there may be others going through something similar. Community care, invites to actually connect with that community, allowing our selves to be supported, non-judgmentally with space holding, validation, resources, and when appropriate advice.

Seek out a supportive community of like-minded individuals who understand the challenges and triumphs of being a Cycle Breaker. This is something you may experience with family, friends, coworkers or your group chat! Group therapy and coaching are also great containers for community care.
