Current Client?

Let’s be real: “Self-care Sunday” has become a whole vibe. Bath bombs, lit candles, and a face mask paired with lo-fi beats can feel like a mini vacation. And don’t get us wrong—we’re fans. But if your nervous system is still fried on Monday, maybe it’s time to rethink what rest actually means.

Because true rest? The kind that heals your bones, beliefs, and burnout?

That takes more than a bubble bath.

When Rest Isn’t Restorative

We live in a culture that romanticizes hustle and sells rest as a limited-time luxury. For Black women and women of color, that’s not just exhausting—it’s dangerous.

Too many of us are:

▪️ Nurturing everyone but ourselves

▪️Living in survival mode

▪️Praising productivity while secretly drowning

And when we do slow down? Guilt shows up. Or shame. Or that voice that whispers, “You should be doing more.”

But here’s the truth: You are allowed to rest without explaining, earning, or apologizing.

5 Types of Rest You Might Be Missing

At Healing Insight, we use a framework called the Five Layers of Self to help clients understand where their exhaustion really comes from. Each layer requires a different kind of care:

🌱 Physical – Sleep, stretching, naps, nourishment
🌱 Emotional – Safe spaces to feel, cry, and release
🌱 Mental – Quieting the mind, reducing overthinking
🌱 Energetic – Unplugging from overstimulation
🌱 Spiritual – Grounding in purpose, faith, and meaning

Most self-care stops at the physical. But when your exhaustion is soul-deep, a nap isn’t going to cut it.

Signs You’re in Survival Mode (Even If You’re “Doing Everything Right”)

Ask yourself:

▪️ Do I feel tired even after sleeping?

▪️ Do I feel like I have to “push through” every day?

▪️ Am I emotionally disconnected or numb?
▪️ Does rest feel unfamiliar—or unsafe?

▪️ Do I carry stories about needing to earn rest?

If you nodded along, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken. You’re just overdue for a different kind of rest.

Rest as Resistance, Rest as Reclamation

Black women have always carried more than our share—emotionally, physically, generationally. That’s not just tiring. It’s traumatizing.

But here’s the thing: Rest is not the opposite of work. It’s the foundation for sustainable healing and power.

Choosing rest says:

▪️ “My body matters.”
▪️ “My story matters.

▪️ “I will not grind myself into dust for belonging.”

That’s more than radical. It’s ancestral.

You Don’t Need Permission to Rest—But Here’s Your Reminder Anyway

Rest is not indulgent. It is not procrastination. It is not selfish.

It is sacred. Strategic. And necessary.

The truth? You don’t need another Sunday ritual. You need a new relationship with rest—one rooted in liberation, not just lotion.

So when you feel the urge to “power through,” pause. Ask: What would it look like to honor my healing today?

Then choose rest that restores, not just distracts.
